Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit Ingredients

Whey Protein

Whey protein, a mixture of lactose, bacteria, and minerals, is an ingredient that is produced as a by-product in the process of making cheese. This ingredient is found in the Nutribuddy protein shake. Whey is often used as a supplementary source of protein; it contains a selection of amino acids and is believed to be beneficial for muscle growth and repair. Although perhaps best known for its addition to bodybuilding and weight loss supplements, whey protein is also used by individuals who are lactose intolerant and to increase glutathione levels in people with HIV. The whey protein in Nutribuddy is claimed to be 80% whey; it is advertised as being non-GMO and obtained from grass-fed cows.

Guarana Extract

Added to Nutribuddy’s Sculpting Whey, guarana is a popular ingredient in weight loss supplements, as well as foods and drinks. The extract is obtained from the seeds of the guarana plant, Paullinia cupana, which is native to the Amazon basin. It is best known for its potential stimulant properties which, although often attributed to its caffeine content, may also be caused by components of the extract itself. As such, guarana has been widely used in traditional medicine for the treatment of depression and fatigue. It is also regularly added to supplements for its claimed weight loss and athletic performance benefits.

Green Tea Extract

Sourced from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, green tea extract is a popular addition to weight loss supplements, and is found in the protein shake of this programme, Sculpting Whey. The process that creates green tea involves steaming the leaves; this is in contrast to the fermentation process that is utilised to make black tea, and supposedly means that the ingredient maintains a high level of antioxidants. For this reason, green tea is believed to have a whole range of health benefits. For example, it is thought to have the potential to prevent cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as treat cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol, amongst many other conditions.

Chromium Picolinate

Chromium is a mineral that is required by the human body in very small quantities. The picolinate aspect (picolinic acid) is added simply to aid the absorption of the substance once in the body. This ingredient can be found in Nutribuddy’s Sculpting Whey product. Chromium is thought to have a number of functions in the body, but is principally involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins; it is also thought to boost the action of insulin. Most people get plenty of chromium from their diet (it is found in a range of common foods, including meat and vegetables), but some people take chromium supplements for their purported health benefits, including for the treatment of diabetes and obesity.

The Hunger Fix capsules contain just the one ingredient. Glucomannan is present in these capsules at 500mg. Glucomannan is a fibrous ingredient that is believed to expand when it comes into contact with water. It is usually obtained from the roots of the konjac plant (Amorphophallus konjac) which is native to certain parts of Asia. In food production, the ingredient is often used as a thickening agent. In traditional medicine, it is believed to help to treat high cholesterol, diabetes, constipation, and even lung cancer. In terms of weight loss, glucomannan is believed to fill the stomach and thus promote appetite suppression.

B Vitamins

Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B9 (folic acid) and B12 are present in the Multivitamin product that is included in Nutribuddy’s Weight Loss Essentials. These are claimed by the manufacturers to help to reduce tiredness and fatigue and contribute towards a healthy metabolism. Vitamin B2 is also said to act as an antioxidant to protect cells from oxidative stress. B vitamins have a great many functions in the body, including keeping the nervous system, skin, and eyes healthy, as well as in the formation of red blood cells and helping the body to use and store energy.

Source: NHS

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is best known for its presence in fruits and vegetables. This vitamin also has a number of functions in the body; most notably, the substance has been associated with helping to heal wounds, maintaining healthy organs and tissues, and protecting body cells. Most people get their daily requirement of vitamin C from their diet, although some people do suffer from a deficiency, which can cause scurvy. It is thought that it is safe to take up to 1000mg vitamin C without experiencing any side effects, although taking too much can be dangerous.

Vitamin E

Like the other vitamins, vitamin E has a range of roles to play in the body. It is advertised by Nutribuddy as being an antioxidant, and so having the potential to protect cells in the body. As such, vitamin E is thought to help to keep the skin and eyes healthy, and contribute to a strong immune system. The best foods for vitamin E content include plant oilds, nuts, seeds, and cereals. The recommended amounts of vitamin E are 4mg for men and 3mg for women, but consuming up to 540mg should not cause any harm.

How Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit Works

Fat Burning / Binding

A number of the ingredients in Nutribuddy’s protein shake, Sculpting Whey are thought to target fat burning, as are a few of the vitamins in the Multivitamins product. Whey protein is thought to improve body composition by burning fat stores whilst increasing the synthesis of muscle. Whey protein, along with green tea extract and guarana, is believed to have a thermogenic effect in the body. This means that the ingredients purportedly cause and increase in the internal temperature which in turn, is said to increase the rate at which fat cells are broken down for energy – a process known as lipolysis.

Other ingredients are thought to boost fat burning through their roles in the body. Chromium (present in the protein shake), for example, is thought to be associated with fat loss as it is involved in the transport of glucose to the cells in the body that then turn it into fat and carbohydrates for energy. B vitamins (particularly vitamins B6 and B12) are also purported to help encourage the breakdown of fat cells.

Green Tea
Guarana Extract

Appetite Suppression

A couple of ingredients in Nutribuddy’s Sculpting Whey are believed to have appetite suppressant qualities, as are the glucomannan in the Hunger Fix capsules. Whilst the methods may differ, the overall aim of appetite suppressing ingredients remains the same – to reduce a person’s calorie intake by making them feel fuller for longer.

Whey protein is thought to help to suppress the appetite by keeping the stomach full for longer than other food groups. It is therefore sometimes said to help prevent snacking between meals. Chromium, also found in the protein shake, is thought to suppress cravings for sugary foods following the consumption of a meal. It supposedly achieves this by reducing the blood glucose spike, and so the insulin surge, that is experienced after food has been eaten.

Finally, the glucomannan tablets are said to suppress the appetite by expanding in the stomach when they come in contact with water. Glucomannan is a fibrous substance that is not digestible; as such, it may stay in the stomach, filling it up for some time before being passed through the digestive tract without being absorbed and contributing calories to the body.

Metabolism Boosting

Green tea extract and guarana extract, both included in Nutribuddy’s Sculpting Whey, are sometimes said to boost the metabolism. The term ‘metabolism’ generally refers to all of the bodily processes that use energy when the body is at rest. These include functions like breathing, digestion, and cell repair, amongst many more. Although it is rare that a person will be overweight due to having a ‘slow metabolism’, it is thought that increasing the resting energy expenditure may have a slight benefit for weight loss.

The aforementioned ingredients are said to increase the metabolism through the process of thermogenesis. Increasing the body temperature purportedly makes cells in the body work harder, and so expend more energy.

Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit Clinical Studies

A clinical study is an investigation into a certain substance or product that is performed to test its efficacy and safety for a certain purpose. Reliable clinical studies will be published in well-known, peer-reviewed scientific journals and will usually use randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled methods. In terms of weight loss supplements, the best trials are those that have been performed on large samples of humans rather than small mammals, or on individual cells.

No studies have been undertaken on Nutriberry as a whole, although it is possible to find some clinical studies on some of its key ingredients. These will be discussed below.

Clinical Studies On Whey Protein

A number of studies have been undertaken to determine the effects of whey protein supplementation on fat mass and body composition. One study, published in 2011, used randomised, double-blind methods to test the impacts of whey protein, soy protein, and carbohydrate supplementation on body weight and composition. Ninety subjects were involved in the trial, all of whom were overweight or obese. The participants were divided to receive one of the three different supplements twice a day for a period of 23 weeks. The results suggested that whey protein could reduce body weight and fat mass when compared to carbohydrate. No significant difference was seen in lean body mass between the groups, but waist circumference was smaller in those who were taking whey protein than those who were taking soy protein or carbohydrate.

Another study compared the effects of whey protein to those of casein protein or a glucose supplement. Here, 70 overweight and obese participants were randomly assigned whey protein, casein, or a glucose supplement for a period of 12 weeks. A selection of measurements was taken before and after the trial period. In contrast to the previously described study, the results of this study showed no impact of whey protein on body composition when compared to the other groups. It was however shown to improve fasting lipid and insulin levels.

Clinical Studies On Guarana Extract

A literature review does not reveal any studies that have tested the effects of guarana extract alone on weight loss. There are a number of studies that have looked at the effects of guarana plus other ingredients in weight loss supplements, but it should be noted that the results of these trials cannot be conclusively attributed to the guarana in the supplements. More research is needed on guarana before any conclusions can be drawn.

One study looked at the impacts of a supplement containing guarana, yerba mate, and Damiana on weight loss and weight maintenance. For a period of 10 days, 44 overweight subjects were divided to receive either the supplement or a placebo three times a day. For a further 45 days, 47 overweight participants underwent the same treatment, and 22 patients continued to take the guarana, yerba mate and Damiana supplements for 12 months. The results suggested that the supplement was able to prolong gastric emptying and reduce body weight over 45 days when compared to placebo. It was also noted that the supplement appeared to aid weight maintenance over the 12 month period, although no control was used for this period.

A second trial tested the effects of a supplement that contained green tea and guarana at a fixed dose of caffeine and varying doses of EGCG. The study involved just 14 subjects, and was a cross-over trial, meaning that the subjects were randomly assigned one of the two treatments for a defined period, and then switched to the other for a second time period. Measurements of energy expenditure and substrate oxidation were taken in a metabolic chamber. It was concluded that all mixtures of EGCG and caffeine increased energy expenditure when compared to placebo, but that no differences were seen in fat burning.

Clinical Studies On Green Tea Extract

Green tea has been subject to a number of studies in relation to its potential weight loss effects, producing mixed results. One such study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, investigated the effects of green tea extract on resting energy expenditure (AKA metabolism), substrate oxidation (AKA fat burning), and body weight. Over a period of 83 days, 46 overweight females were given either green tea or a placebo alongside a low-energy diet. Caffeine intake was standardised throughout the trial. The results did not highlight any differences in weight loss, BMI, waist circumference, or fat mass between the groups. The authors therefore concluded that green tea consumption alongside a low-energy diet does not have any benefits above those gained from a placebo.

A meta-analysis has been performed on the effects of green tea on weight regulation. Here, the relevant scientific literature was trawled and 11 studies on green tea and body weight were identified that were reliably controlled. The results of each of these trials were pooled and statistical analyses were performed on the dataset as a whole. The results suggested that green tea catechins did have a beneficial effect on weight loss and weight maintenance, but also that the effect may be affected by habitual caffeine intake and ethnicity (the effect was smaller in Caucasian individuals than Asians).

Clinical Studies On Chromium Picolinate

Chromium has been the subject of preliminary tests with regards to its weight loss potential. A pilot study in 1999, for example, looked at the impacts of 600 micrograms of chromium daily on weight loss using 20 overweight, female African-Americans. The participants were given either a placebo or chromium supplement to take three times a day alongside a modest diet and exercise programme for a period of two months. The groups were then switched, so the subjects took the other treatment (chromium or placebo) for a further two months. Results of this trial indicated that although chromium did not appear to have any impact on weight loss, fat loss was much higher in subjects following chromium supplementation.

A second study used similar methods, testing the effects of chromium picolinate supplementation against those of a placebo. A much larger sample of 122 subjects was utilised for this study. The subjects were randomly assigned either 400 micrograms of chromium picolinate or a placebo for 90 days. The energy intake and expenditure of participants was also recorded to make for a fairer test, and measurements were taken using x-ray methods. The authors found significant differences in body weight and body fat when caloric intake and expenditure was controlled for, suggesting that chromium picolinate supplementation may have beneficial effects on weight loss.

Clinical Studies On Glucomannan

A number of scientific studies are available that have investigated the impacts of glucomannan on weight loss. A trial published in 1992 used 25 obese subjects to test the impacts of a glucomannan-based supplement on body weight and fat mass. Half of the participants were given the supplement, whilst the other half were not, for a period of three months. All subjects followed a hypocaloric diet throughout this time. The results of this study indicated that glucomannan intake could significantly boost weight loss in relation to fatty mass, as well as improve lipid levels and carbohydrate tolerance. There were no reports of side effects associated with the glucomannan.

A meta-analysis has also been performed on the topic. Randomised, controlled studies were identified and used in the analysis and statistical tests were done on the pooled results. Fourteen studies using a total of 531 subjects were included in the study. The authors found that glucomannan had a significant positive effect on cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as well as weight loss. Those subjects who had impaired glucose metabolism and those who were receiving dietary modification did not experience such significant effects.

Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit Side Effects

As the products themselves have not undergone any scientific testing, it cannot be stated with certainty what side effects they could cause. A look at the individual ingredients in each product can offer an insight into potential side effects associated with Nutribuddy’s Weight Loss Starter Kit.

Side Effects Associated With Whey Protein

Generally speaking, whey protein is believed to be safe for consumption. Some mild side effects have been linked to the ingredient; these include nausea, bloating, stomach cramps, increased bowel movements, headaches, tiredness. These side effects however are rare.

Side Effects Associated With Guarana Extract

As guarana extract contains caffeine, it may cause caffeine-related side effects to those who are sensitive to caffeine. Examples include: headaches, nausea, anxiety, jitteriness, rapid breathing, tremors, increased heart rate and high blood pressure. WebMD states that guarana may be safe in medicinal amounts when consumed for short periods of time, but may not be safe in the long term. In the quantities in which guarana is present in the Weight Loss Essentials package, side effects are unlikely.

Side Effects Associated With Green Tea Extract

Green tea extract also contains caffeine, and so may cause caffeine-related side effects. Besides those associated with caffeine, green tea extract has not been linked with many side effects. In the dosage present in Nutribuddy’s Weight Loss Essentials package, side effects are unlikely.

Side Effects Associated With Chromium Picolinate

Although an essential mineral, chromium has been associated with side effects when taken in high doses. In Nutribuddy’s Weight Loss Essentials package, the dosage of chromium is too low to cause these side effects.

Side Effects Associated With Glucomannan

Although glucomannan powder is thought to be safe for consumption in the short term, and is generally well-tolerated in clinical studies, the ingredient has been known to cause oesophageal obstruction – i.e. causing blockages in the throat. This side effect can be avoided if the product is taken as instructed with 1-2 glasses of water.

Side Effects Associated Vitamins

B Vitamins generally safe for consumption, however taking too much of certain B vitamins for extensive periods of time can cause adverse effects. If taken in the quantities as contained in Nutribuddy’s Multivitamin product, these effects will be avoided as the quantity is too low to lead to these effects.

Once again, in moderate doses, vitamin C should not cause any harm. In doses higher than 1000mg per day however, uncomfortable but not serious side effects may be experienced. The dosage in which these vitamins are contained in the Multivitam product will not lead to these side effects.

The NHS states that there is not enough evidence to determine with certainty what side effects may occur if you take too much vitamin E. WebMD lists a number of adverse effects that may occur at high doses but the ingredient is unlikely to cause any effects when taken at the dosage provided in Nutribuddy’s Multivitamins.

How To Use Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit

Instructions on how to use the different products in the package are revealed, and it is stated that an instructional guide book is provided with every order.

It is said that Sculpting Whey, the whey protein shake comes in powder form and is to be mixed with water or milk to create a beverage. One serving of the protein powder is 30g, and there should be 30 servings in one packet. This product is suitable for vegetarians. It is recommended that anybody with a pre-existing health condition consults a doctor before taking the protein shake; it contains ingredients that may cause problems for those with cardiovascular, psychological, or digestive conditions, as well as those who have diabetes.

The Hunger Fix tablets come in packs of 90, and it is stated that a user can take three to six capsules each day, with one to two full glasses of water. There tablets are said to be suitable for vegetarians and vegans, but the manufacturers state that they should not be taken by anybody under the age of 18 or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Based on the potential side effects associated with glucomannan, we would not recommend this product for anybody with an oesophageal or digestive condition; if you have a pre-existing health condition, you should consult a doctor before taking these tablets.

Finally, the Multivitamins come in a pack of 60 tablets, and one is to be taken each day with food. These are also suitable for both vegetarians and vegans, but should not be taken by anybody under the age of 18.

Good stuff'
22nd December by Jacob Listeron Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit

I bought this to help me when I go to the gym. I find the protein much tastier than other proteins which I have had in the past. I've also noticed that it's much lower in calories. I want to keep in good shape whilst boosting my muscles. I take the shaker bottle to the gym and my friends have been asking me what it is - I think because it looks pretty cool! I haven't given it 5* as I've not been using it very long but i'll leave another review when I start getting in shape.

I bought these last week and I have to say I am already noticing a difference! The whey protein tastes amazing and I find it gives me more energy. It also does the trick when it comes to making me feel full. I no longer crave kitkats and mars bars haha. All in all with the package I've lost over 2lbs in my first week. So 5 stars from me!

Great first impressions!'
17th December by Saraon Nutribuddy Weight Loss Starter Kit

I ordered this package earlier this week. Not long after placing my order I received a confirmation email with my tracking code and received my package next day. So far very reliable and efficient but what are the products like? When I opened up the box I was so excited - I just love the packaging and the shaker bottle is so cool, it reminds me of those vos water bottles. Everything was all in great condition.

I ordered the chocolate flavour whey and it tastes amazing, like those nesquik drinks you have when you're a kid. The only issue is the scoop that comes with the protein is a little big so I made a bit of a mess when getting it in the shaker bottle but that was overlooked by how great the whey tasted especially with milk (yum). What's also great is that the order comes with The Little Book of Weight Loss which contains lots of recipes for the shake. I've only tried 1 so far but they all look delicious. You can have it with fruit or you can have it with chocolate or you can even have it as a hot chocolate! I'm excited by the variety.

So the Hunger Fix capsules are great. You have to take them with 2 glasses of water. The instructions say you can have 1 or 2 tablets at a time but I only have 1 and don't feel it necessary to have 2 as 1 really does the trick in keeping me full. It's still early days and I haven't weighed myself yet but I definitely don't feel as hungry.

Lastly are the Multivitamins. They're about the size of a paracetamol so not massive but not tiny either. They go down pretty easily. Once again it's still early days but I generally feel more energised.

So all in all great first impressions and I look forward to keeping you updated with how I get on :D
