Bootea Teatox

Last updated March 11th 2015

Bootea offers a different way to lose weight. Instead of taking a diet pill, you simply follow the ‘Teatox’ programme, which has you drink tea twice a day. The official website claims you can get the figure you want thanks to Bootea’s all-natural ingredients.

Bootea Teatox Pros

  • Offers an alternative for those not comfortable with taking pills
  • Comes with a diet plan

Bootea Teatox Cons

  • Limited clinical evidence supporting ingredients in regards to weight loss
  • There are some unpleasant side-effects associated with the Bedtime Cleanse teabags
Bootea Teatox comes with two different types of tea: the Daytime Cleanse and the Bedtime Cleanse.

By drinking a cup of each type of tea daily over the course of 2-4 weeks, you should start to lose weight and have your body detoxified.

It is claimed on the official website that Bootea achieves weight loss by suppressing appetite, boosting metabolism and burning fat. It also comes with a free diet plan, which is designed to help the weight loss and detoxifying processes. Any good diet plan should work just as effectively as the Bootea diet plan, however.

The Daytime Cleanse is supposed to suppress your appetite and boost your metabolism, while the Bedtime Cleanse, which you take every other night, contains a laxative that should remove toxins.

Bootea have also released a shake called Bootea Shake. More information can be found on our full review of Bootea Shake.

How Many of The 5 Key Areas of Weight Loss Does Bootea Teatox Cover?

Bootea mainly works by targeting three key areas of weight loss: metabolism boosting, appetite suppression and fat burning. As well as these, it also comes with a diet plan and is claimed to detoxify the body, though there is very little evidence available to suggest that detoxifying has any sort of effect on weight loss. The Daytime Cleanse boosts metabolism and suppresses appetite, whereas the Bedtime Cleanse detoxifies the body and prevents extra calories from being converted to fat while you sleep. The diet plan advises you to abstain from eating meat, simply because most meats contain a number of the toxins that the Bootea Bedtime Cleanse is meant to rid from the body.

Bootea Teatox Ingredients

Chinese Oolong tea

Oolong tea is made from the stems, buds and leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, the same plant from which green and black tea are both made. Nettle Leaves

The root and above-ground parts of the stinging nettle plant are used as medicine, though there is not enough evidence to suggest it works effectively. It contains ingredients that are thought to be able to increase the amount of urine discharged from the body and decrease inflammation.

Senna Leaves

Senna is a herb whose leaves and root are used to make different medicines. It has been approved by the Food & Drug Administration as a non-prescription laxative. It is used for a number of conditions, such as constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and weight loss. It contains sennosides, which can cause a laxative effect by irritating the bowel lining.

How Bootea Teatox Works

Appetite Suppression

The Daytime Cleanse is responsible for appetite suppression. Since it is taken in the morning when you wake up, the idea is that throughout the day you should not have any cravings and should eat a lot less than what you normally would eat. Appetite suppression also reduces cravings for unhealthy foods in particular; if these are cut out of the diet altogether, you stand a better chance at losing a significant amount of weight.

The ingredient in Bootea which is said to have appetite suppressing properties is ginseng. Ginseng is a natural appetite suppressant and is thought to be able to help effectively regulate blood sugar levels.

Appetite Suppression Ingredients

Ginseng

Metabolism Boosting

The Daytime Cleanse is responsible for boosting metabolism. The metabolism boost provides the body with more energy, resulting in you feeling more motivated to exercise. Speeding up the rate at which metabolism takes place can lead to weight loss because the body is able to break fat down more quickly and burn through it.

Dandelion leaf is said to help contribute to metabolism boosting. Consuming dandelion leaf results in more frequent urination. Dandelion leaf also contains an antioxidant, luteolin. Antioxidants play an important role in boosting metabolism and fat burning.

Another ingredient in Bootea that is said to help metabolism boosting is yerba mate. Yerba mate contains a significant amount of caffeine, which is known to be a powerful metabolism booster. It is believed that yerba mate leaves, when used in large quantities, can help effectively burn fats.

Lastly, studies have shown that oolong tea has the capability to reduce body fat content and overall body weight by improving lipid metabolism. It is thought that consuming oolong tea regularly over an extended period of time may be able to help prevent obesity.

Bootea Teatox Clinical Studies

Bootea’s official website states that the ingredients chosen to feature in the teas have been used for centuries for various health and wellbeing purposes. No clinical studies of any kind are mentioned. However, there are clinical studies that have been carried out on some of Bootea’s ingredients. Oolong tea has been shown to reduce body fat content and overall body weight by improving lipid metabolism. It is thought that consuming oolong tea regularly over an extended period of time may be able to help prevent obesity. A study was carried out using a senna-fibre combination, where the conclusion was that the senna-fibre is more effective at treating chronic constipation thanks to its laxative effects than lactulose. However, this study was not examining senna by itself, and there is nothing to suggest that the laxative effects actually do contribute to weight loss.

What Is A Clinical Study?

A clinical study is designed to determine the effects of new medicines on people before being released for public consumption. Though medicines may be considered safe after being tested in the lab and on animals, they can only be prescribed by doctors once they are proven to be safe for humans to use. People participating in clinical studies do so voluntarily and are told of the risks and benefits beforehand; they must understand any potential side-effects and risks before taking part. As participants are volunteers, they are free to withdraw from the study at any given time.

Clinical Studies On Chinese Oolong Tea

Chinese Oolong Tea is used in the Daytime Cleanse. It has long been used in China as a medicinal herb. It is claimed to contribute to weight loss in two ways: firstly, by increasing energy and secondly, by preventing the absorption of fats. For a study, a group of 102 overweight and obese participants consumed 8g of oolong tea a day for a duration of six weeks. Before the start of the study, several measurements, including height, weight and waist measurements, were taken. These measurements were taken again at the end of the study. Of the severely obese participants, roughly 70% lost more than 1kg in weight, with 22% losing more than 3kg. 64% of the obese and 66% of the overweight participants lost more than 1kg by the end of the study. The conclusion drawn from this study was that oolong tea has the capability to reduce body fat content and overall body weight by improving lipid metabolism and that consuming oolong tea regularly over an extended period of time may be able to help prevent obesity.

Clinical Studies On Senna Leaves

The purpose of this study was to determine the efficiency of a senna-fibre combination and lactulose in treating elderly patients who had constipation. The participants were 77 elderly patients who had been in long-term nursing home or hospital care and had a history of chronic constipation. The study was a randomised, double-blind cross-over study. The outcome of the study was that the senna-fibre combination was much more effective at treating chronic constipation than the lactulose. Though senna leaves are known to have efficient laxative effects, it cannot be said for certain whether this means that senna leaves are also effective at contributing to weight loss.

Bootea Teatox Side Effects

There appear to be no side-effects associated with the product as a whole. However, it is mentioned on the official website that any women who are using contraception, or who are conceiving, pregnant or breastfeeding should not use Bootea. It is uncertain whether there are any particular ingredients that could cause side-effects that could be harmful in any way to women who tick these boxes. It is also uncertain whether these women are being told not to use Bootea because the product as a whole can have negative side-effects. Either way, there is a chance that women using contraception, or who are conceiving, pregnant or breastfeeding can experience some negative side-effects. Nothing is certain, but as a precaution, women ticking these boxes should beware.

Side Effects Associated With Senna Leaves

Senna leaves are found only in the Bedtime Cleanse teabags. They are directly responsible for the laxative effect that the Bedtime Cleanse has. It is stated on the official website that the Bedtime Cleanse will ‘most likely’ give you some sort of laxative effect. The side-effects that can be experienced include cramping and having to go to the toilet more frequently. The following side-effects should not occur: severe cramping, vomiting, dizziness and diarrhoea. If any of these side-effects do occur, you should either consult your GP or simply reduce the strength of the Bedtime Cleanse teabags. You can do this by soaking the teabag in near-to-boiling water for around 30 seconds, as opposed to 3-5 minutes. The four side-effects could be due to an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in the Bedtime Cleanse teabags. If the side-effects start to subside after the strength has been reduced, simply carry on using the teabags at the reduced strength and they should subside altogether once your body has adjusted. You could take the Bedtime Cleanse teabags less frequently than once every two nights if you feel it is enough for you. The laxative can also make you feel dehydrated, so it is important that you drink plenty of water.

Side Effects Associated With Hawthorn Leaves

Hawthron leaves are only found in the Evening Cleanse teabags. They have a few side-effects associated with them, including dizziness, nausea, fatigue and insomnia. However, they have also been known to interact with a range of prescription medication used to treat various heart diseases. For this reason, anyone taking any sort of medication for any sort of heart condition should consult a doctor prior to using Bootea.

How To Use Bootea Teatox

Daytime Cleanse should be taken every morning when you wake up. Simply place a Daytime Cleanse tea bag in a mug then pour some near-boiling water it. Leave it to infuse for around 3-5 minutes, though be sure to keep the teabag submerged in the water. After 3-5 minutes, you simply drink the tea.

Bedtime Cleanse should be taken every second night starting from the first day you take Bootea. The instructions for taking the Bedtime Cleanse teabags are the same as the Daytime Cleanse teabags. Simply place a Bedtime Cleanse tea bag in a mug then pour some near-boiling water it. Leave it to infuse for around 3-5 minutes, though be sure to keep the teabag submerged in the water. After 3-5 minutes, you simply drink the tea. Bedtime Cleanse, as its name suggests, should be taken every evening right before you go to bed – the idea is that you will then go to the toilet once you have woken up the following morning.

It is stated on the official website that users who have not tried green tea before might find Bootea quite strange to taste. Flavour enhancers, such as lemon, maple syrup, honey or any natural sweeteners can be added to either the Daytime Cleanse or the Bedtime Cleanse to make the taste more appealing.

The Bedtime Cleanse teabags are likely to cause a laxative effect. Because of this, it is advised that you should first use this particular teabag at the weekend or on a day off. This will allow you to see how your body reacts to the teabags and it gives you the freedom to go to the toilet whenever you want, should you need to. On a positive note, it is emphasised on the official website that side-effects are not serious.

You shouldn’t take Bootea if you fall into any of the below categories:

  • Anyone under the age of 16
  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding women
  • Women using forms of contraception

You should consult your doctor prior to use if:

  • You have any sort of heart condition

Who Makes Bootea Teatox

Bootea is manufactured and sold by a UK company that also goes by the name of Bootea. This company is based in Leeds, though it is currently unsure when the company was founded. The Bootea teatox packages, along with the Bootea Shake and the Bootea Fitness Plan are the only products the company manufactures. In accordance with this, it is stated on the official website that the company specialises in 100% natural health supplements and desires to promote a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle. Information pertaining to nutrition and exercise is given to customers primarily through the company’s Instagram page. Bootea actually discourages its customers from dieting because they believe healthy eating should be part of a lifestyle and should not be part of a quick fix to solve a short-term problem. Though it is based in the UK, Bootea ships its product worldwide. Bootea is only available for purchase from the official website and as such, there are no independent customer reviews to go by. However, looking at the company’s Instagram page, there are quite a few comments from customers concerning late deliveries and poor customer service, with several saying they have been unable to get in touch with people at the company. Contact details are provided on the official website. Apart from the complaints about poor customer service and late deliveries, there appears to be nothing questionable to say about the company.

Where To Buy Bootea Teatox

Bootea can be purchased from the official website. You can purchase the Daytime Cleanse and the Evening Cleanse separately, or you can purchase them together in a teatox package. What sets Bootea apart from other weight supplements is that, because it comes in the form of teabags, it does not have an expiry date. It is therefore possible for you to purchase some teabags and use them at a much later date. However, it is suggested that you use the teabags sooner rather than later in order to get more benefits from them. There do not appear to be any third parties selling Bootea. As is the case with weight loss supplements, it is always strongly advised to purchase them from the official website, even if it does prove a little more expensive. Even if you come across any third-party seller, you should still purchase Bootea from its official website.

The current pricings are listed below:

– Bedtime Cleanse – 14 Day Supply for £10.99. This contains enough teabags for 7 days, as Bedtime Cleanse is meant to be taken every other evening

– Daytime Cleanse – 14 Day Supply for £10.99

– 14 Day Teatox (A 14 day supply of both Daytime Cleanse and Bedtime Cleanse) for £19.99

– 28 Day Teatox (A 28 day supply of both Daytime Cleanse and Bedtime Cleanse) for £34.99

– Bootea Fitness Plan for £1.99

– Bootea Shake Smoothie (A 14 day supply) for £34.99

For all UK orders there is a delivery charge of £3 and orders are expected to arrive within 1-3 days. For all European orders there is a delivery charge of £5-10 and orders are expected to arrive within 5-10 days. For all international orders delivery charges are £12 for any product and arrival times vary from destination to destination; however, extra delivery charges may apply. One thing that sets Bootea apart from other weight loss supplements is that it comes in the form of teabags and so it does not have an expiry date. However, you should use the teabags sooner rather than later for maximum effect.

Overall Verdict

Bootea has quite an attractive advertising campaign behind it and it has quite a strong presence on various social media platforms. It is definitely being given a large push by its manufacturers, however that big push is backfiring in a way. There have been numerous customer complaints, which can be seen on the product’s Instagram page, complaining about having to wait too long for their orders and about the poor level of customer service they have received. As for the product itself, Bootea does not appear to be the effective weight loss supplement it is advertised as. There is very little clinical evidence available to suggest that any of Bootea’s ingredients have effective weight loss properties. There have been no clinical studies carried out on Bootea as a whole product. Even though Bootea is quite reasonable priced, it simply does not appear to be effective enough. It could very well be, but there is no strong evidence available. There are also a number of unpleasant side-effects that can occur as a result of taking the Bedtime Cleanse teabags. There are also medical concerns about detoxing and there is no strong enough evidence available to suggest that detoxing can contribute to weight loss. Detoxing remains a thorny issue among scientists and medical professionals as not everyone sees the benefits of it and many think it unnecessary and potentially dangeours. On the whole, Bootea does have potential to be an effective weight loss supplement, but it needs to be made much safer and it needs a round of clinical studies to determine whether or not it really is effective. Until it is safer and its efficacy has been better proven, you should look elsewhere because chances are that you will not lose much weight at all with Bootea.

Disappointing'
25th July by Anneon Bootea Teatox

I was very disappointed with this product as after 2 weeks of changing my diet, eating healthily, not drinking soft drinks, caffeine or alcohol or eating biscuits and chocolates etc I have lost less than a kilo, though my stomach is slightly flatter. I was also taking the bootea shakes at the same time and was hoping for at least a 4 kg loss. I've lost more weight following weight watchers! Will not be purchasing again. Just the changes in my diet would've made me lose weight so I'm pretty sure the tea did nothing apart from give me stomach cramps.

Should come with a bigger health warning'
22nd May by Tracey Pooleon Bootea Teatox

I did this for four days, so four daytime bags and two nighttime then I had to stop as the stomach cramps got so severe I started vomiting. I also have started my period two weeks early and I feel like complete rubbish. ALSO should state that you should use another form of contraception other than the pill whilst taking these bags. I do not recommend at all.

rubbish!'

This is expensive and doesn’t work. I’m convinced all the good reviews about this aren’t genuine, given my own experience with it. I did regular exercise while using this product, which I think is really overrated, and yet still nothing.

save yourself a load of money instead of this rip off product. Get yourself different herbal teabags. Different blends of Green tea, ginger and lemon, liquorice, peppermint, cranberry&rasberry Red bush, Berry fruits, nettle cost you a 1/10th of what the rip off product would cost a probably better for you

Painful'
29th October by Jill Andersonon Bootea Teatox

This thing does make you go to the toilet very often. I’m not sure if anyone else has experienced this buy I had really severe pains for a day after first drinking the tea. I started taking it less regularly to see if that would help, but I had the pains after every time I drank the tea.

surprisingly good'
26th October by Joan M.on Bootea Teatox

I’m not really into herbal teas that much but someone recommended this to me after I’d been doing a lot of heavy partying. The smell is strong, but the taste is very nice. It doesn’t taste as sickly as some other similar products. So far it’s seemed to help me quite a bit, so it’s going great so far!

very expensive laxatives'
29th September by davidon Bootea Teatox

I decided to buy this and was glad to see it delivered the day after I’d ordered it. I read the product description and thought it would work wonders for me and I was excited to get started. However I didn’t feel great at all. So far today I’ve been running to the toilet again and again with really bad diarrhoea and I feel completely sick. I could have bought some cheap laxatives from the supermarket and they would have had the same effect! I’m definitely not bulimic, so I’m going to throw this in the bin. I can’t imagine feeling this bad again. I was very misled and am disappointed in this.

I can buy herbal teas from the shop down the road for a much cheaper price than this. That’s why I have to give this a bad rating. It’s just way too expensive.

I’ve been drinking this for about two weeks now. It tastes OK I guess and drinking it makes me feel like I am doing some good for my body, but then I haven’t lost any weight yet. I’ve been doing regular exercise and eating healthily. I don’t think I’m going to buy it again.

Okay'
27th August by Sam M.on Bootea Teatox

I’m on a weight loss programme so I can’t say for certain whether any weight loss is through the programme or through using this. However since starting this I haven’t noticed any obvious differences. Three days after I started using it bowel movements started and I found myself making trips to the toilet at 5am or earlier each morning for the next week! I’m thinking of trying it again, but I’m not 100% sure.

The tea does taste great. I’ve been drinking it in the morning as well as at night, though I haven’t lost any weight yet and I’m not quite sure why it’s got so many rave reviews. I don’t think this tea is for everyone.

Nothing for me'
26th May by Maireon Bootea Teatox

This product doesn’t seem to be able to help with weight loss at all, well at least hasn’t done anything for me. The only thing I’ve noticed is that sometimes I have heartburn! I was excited to give this a try but after a few weeks of using it, I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone else.

Not great for losing weight'
24th May by Sophie Jacksonon Bootea Teatox

While drinking the tea I did regular exercise and ate quite healthily, though it didn’t make any difference whatsoever. My digestion improved a little bit and that was it. So I think I’ll give it 3 stars. If you want to lose weight, go for something else.
